The Royal College of Organists has made 2025 - 'Play the Organ year', in an effort to bring the Organ, its music and how it works to a wider range of people and possible players!
We at Tim Knight Music are fully supportive of this and throughout this year we will be arranging events to showcase the wide range of Organs available and help explain how the instrument works and also - especially important to us - the repertoire written for it.
We are in regular contact with many organists, not only locally but also in America, Lithuania, Australia, Holland and Germany and we stock huge amounts of secondhand, rare and out of print Organ titles as well as of course our own Organ composers in our New music catalogue. We also regularly run competitions to encourage new composers to try their hand at writing for the organ (read all about our latest competition in our last blog - Announcing a new competition - Get your Easter eggs into our basket!) ...
We have a beautiful Viscount digital Organ in our studio sponsored by Aspire Classical Organs which is available for practice, as a demonstration instrument and also as a recital instrument, and this instrument, together with those played by other local organists will feature in this years activities.
Of course, many of you reading this will be organ music customers and we always welcome recordings of our music to be shown on our social media, such as this one from Stephen Maxson, Organist at Middlesborough Cathedral.
The Organ composers in our catalogue write in a variety of styles - we have works by Simon Mold, Giles Taylor, Alejandro Consolacion, David Barton, Graham Twist, Arne Richards, Rebekah Okpoti and, through our anthologies over 30 other UK and International composers. We also have a specialist section of very popular manuals only music for those who are not yet comfortable with the pedals. There are many recordings on YouTube from around the world illustrating these pieces on many different organs.
So, if you have ideas that we might be interested in for events for this year of bringing the organ into the limelight, or have an idea that we may partner you or your organisation with, do get in touch - for example, we may be able to supply you with some music if you are holding a workshop. We can help publicise your event through our Newsletter, and we are always happy to look at new composers music with a view to possible publication, so - pipe up and let us hear your ideas!!
