Three invigorating Marches worthy of any celebratory occasion!
The opening piece, 'Southernhay March', is a short, 4-minute march will work well on almost any organ in the traditional trumpet-key of D, firmly in the well-established military-cum-ceremonial tradition. Outer sections featuring a tuneful main theme frame a contrasting middle portion. The title of the piece references a clutch of streets in the southern suburbs of Leicester.
'A little March' is just as it sounds... a simple march combining two themes which will work well as a closing voluntary (the mention of a Tuba at the end could be replaced by any reed stop). The third in the triology, 'Shrimpton's Stride' was written as a 30th birthday gift for the Composer's Godson (Philip Shrimpton) who is also an organist. The registration requirements take into account the resources of the 3-manual instruments that they mostly play, but the music has been written with an alternative option for those who have smaller instruments at their disposal.
